| | | Charles M. Gifford, age 90, of Menomonie passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Dunn County Health Care Center in Menomonie.
Charles Marvin Gifford was born February 1, 1919, to Charles A. Gifford and Mollie Johnson Gifford at home near Eau Galle. In 1938, they moved to Eau Claire where he was employed by Gorton Brothers and Gillette Tire Company.
Chuck married Mabel Midthun September 12, 1941. In the spring of 1942, they moved to a farm in Alma, Wisconsin. Their oldest son, Sheldon, was born in 1943. Mabel’s mother died in 1944. They moved to his wife’s home farm that fall to help care for two little girls aged 7 and 11. In 1947 they all moved to Menomonie.
He worked at Pressure Cooker until he bought a garage on south Broadway in partnership with his brother. Later he bought the Willis Peck farm north of Menomonie. Three more sons were born there, Loren, Michael, and Scott. They farmed there until retirement.
He belonged to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and enjoyed ushering and being on the church council. He was active in the Registered Holstein Breeders Association, N. W. Farm Business Association, and 4H. Chuck enjoyed his farm, fishing and cribbage.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers James, Durward and David, and sisters Idelle, Sarah, and Alice. Survived by his wife, Mabel, sons Sheldon (Heidi), Loren (Judy), Michael (Janet), and Scott (Dorinda), grandchildren Annika, Erika, Michaela, Michelle, and Nicholas, great grandchildren Zola and Elijah, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, September 21, 2009 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Rev. Roy Harrisville III officiating. Burial will be in Lyster Cemetery, Buffalo Co., WI. Family and friends are welcome at Olson Funeral Home from 4:00PM to 8:00PM Sunday and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
The family prefers memorials to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or the Dunn County Health Care Center.
