Jacob T. “Jake” Lee, age 75, of Menomonie, WI died Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Red Cedar Medical Center in Menomonie after battling cancer for 5 ˝ years.
Jake was born to Alfred and Annie Lee on April 14, 1934. He graduated from Rice Lake High School in 1952 and then married Marilyn Tappon on June 26, 1953 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Rice Lake WI. After their marriage, their son Jeff was born in 1961 and daughter, Karen was born in 1964. Jake served in the National Guard in Spokane, WA from 1956-1958 and again from 1961-1962 in Tacoma, WA.
After the military service, he owned and operated the LP Gas and Appliance business in Rice Lake. He worked for Wisconsin Gas Company in sales and management for 11 years
He then started at Dunn Co. Electric on July 1, 1975, as general manager retiring in September of 1994.
Jake was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church as well as the Rotary Club. He was on the National Ski Patrol for 30 years. He enjoyed singing in the Our Savior’s Lutheran Choir. He was involved actively with the Durand Community Arts Club musicals, often as the lead singer. He was a member of the Red Cedar Medical Center volunteers. Jake was a devoted family man and good friend. The highlights of his last years were watching his grandsons grow up and participating in all of their events.
Jake is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Marilyn; children, Jeff Lee of Menomonie and Karen Lee of Boyceville; grandsons, Ryan & Andrew Veith and Jaocb Robert Lee: siblings, Alfred Lee Jr. of Rice Lake, WI and Eunice (Dale) Seffrood of Wheaton, IL along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Jake is preceded in death by parents, Alfred and Annie; sister, Charlene Lehman; brother-in-law, Kenneth Lehman and sister-in-law, Frieda Lee.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Friday, at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be at a later date.
