Robert G. Labs, 83, of Menomonie died Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Heritage of Elmwood Nursing Home, Elmwood, WI. Bob was born at Molitor Hospital in Menomonie, WI on January 27, 1926 to William and Bernice (Simon) Labs. He attended Highland Grade School (Weston Township) and St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Menomonie; and graduated from Dunn County (Aggie) High School. Bob joined the Marine Corp. Reserves and spent from December 1950 to October 1951 stationed in Wonson, Korea. He was discharged in November 1952. Upon returning to Menomonie, he was employed at Lakeside Aluminum (Presto). On January 12, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Holzhueter at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Menomonie. Bob then worked for Wisconsin Milling in Menomonie and Wisco Milling in Abbotsford, WI. During this time Bob and Mary also bought their farm in Irvington in 1962. Then in 1969 Bob and Mary also purchased Elmwood Feed & Farm Supply, in Elmwood, WI. Bob was active in area FFA and 4-H programs by coaching 4-H boys softball teams and watching his children show cattle. Time spent with his family, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, friends and neighbors was also a highlight. He was a member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #207, VFW Post #1039, and the Wisconsin Feed & Seed Association. Bob enjoyed cutting firewood, Angus cattle, horses and playing cards. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary, children, Lori Labs (Steve Nelson) of Lakeville, MN, Linda (Mark) Kok, Sierra Vista, AZ, David (Karen) Labs, Menomonie, and Sarah (John) Kinnard, Menomonie, grandchildren: Joel Maas, Ryan & Luke Smith, Jason Labs and Erica Kinnard, great-grandchild, Makayla Maas Peterson. He is also survived by his brothers, Stanley (Joan) Labs and Gary (Sue) Labs, Sister-in-Law, Ione Labs all of Menomonie and a brother, Thomas (Carol) Labs, North Glen, CO, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence and her husband Francis Stratton, brothers Alfred and his wife Marlys, Richard and his wife Joan, Donald Labs, and David Labs (infancy). Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Menomonie with Pastor Steve Schmeling officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Menomonie, Dunn Co., WI with military honors by Elmwood American Legion Post #207. | ||
