When a loss occurs within a family, it marks the beginning of a transitional period. Grief is a universal experience. Shock, disbelief, guilt and depressions are all common symptoms for surviving family members. How each person responds to loss depends on their personality, circumstances, past experiences, and to some extent how others around a person acknowledge the grief process.
Mental health experts agree that our society today needs to be more educated on the grief process and understanding of those who have experienced a loss. Providing assistance to a family after a loved one dies is very important to us.
Poindexter-Hall & McClure Funeral Home has a dedicated team who will personally support each family's needs. We believe personal service is important before, during, and after a loss.
Poindexter-Hall & McClure implemented a family follow-up/aftercare program in 1995 to meet our commitment to personally serve after a loss. This program has three major priorities. The first priority is to help the families we serve. The second priority is to provide educational information and tools to schools, churches, and senior citizen groups. The third priority is to support other grief groups through seminars, tours, and a very extensive library of books, videos and grief materials.
Our Family Follow-up specialist, Kathy Evans, meets with families about two weeks after a service to provide assistance and helpful information. It is during this period that a family's support network movies back into their "normal" routine and family members are left to deal with the intensity of the grief process. Caring for yourself after a loss is important and not selfish, The feelings and timetable for grief are different for each person.
Kathy Evans provides information to families that includes support organizations, pamphlets on loss, and grief materials designed to assist children, adolescents and adults. There are also area professionals that can provide counseling assistance if needed.
Poindexter-Hall & McClure Funeral Home maintains a comprehensive bereavement resource library that is provided free for our community's use. This Transition Library includes books, workbooks and videos to assist families with their unique grief experience.
