Rock Valley, IA: Duane Vander Schaaf, 79, of Rock Valley, died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Whispering Heights, Rock Valley. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Saturday at First Christian Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Rev. Gene Vis will be officiating. Burial at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. Gene Vis will be officiating. Visitation will be 6:30-8 pm Friday at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley.

Stuart Duane Vander Schaaf was born September 7, 1928 at Newkirk, IA, son of Stuart and Nellie (Roos) Vander Schaaf. He married Johanna “Jo” Van Zanten on March 6, 1950 at Rock Valley. Duane served as military police at Albuquerque, NM in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict 1952-54. The family moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1958 where Duane began driving for Greyhound Bus Lines. After living at various locations driving for Greyhound for 32 years, Duane and Jo retired to Rock Valley in 1990. Duane enjoyed traveling with his family and going thru the mountains, watching sunsets, classic cars, and listening to hymns.

Duane is survived by his wife Jo; son, Doug (Bernita) Vander Schaaf of Visalia, CA; daughter, Rachelle (Richard) Laliberte of Macungie, PA; 5 grandchildren, Andrea Rainbow, Katrin Johnson, Anthony Vander Schaaf, Jordan and Marissa Laliberte; sister, Phyllis (George) Good of Butler, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Nellie; and brothers, Earl, Russell, and Leon Vander Schaaf.
