Johnnie Lynn Swaims, Sr., 65, of Batesville died, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at the White River Medical Center. Johnnie was born December 25, 1943 in Batesville and was the son of the late Johnnie Case Swaim and Thelma Pearl Fitzsimmons McDonald. He was a 1961 graduate of Cushman High School where he was active in sports. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and then served in the Army National Guard for many years. Upon his honorable discharge with the Guard he was Staff Seargant with the military police. He was a retired Little Rock Police Officer having served from November 22, 1971 – February 6, 1992. During his career he was certified by the FBI – Narcotics, Vice and Counter Intelligence. He received numerous awards and recognition through the years and was named police officer of the month three different times. He was of the Baptist faith, a Master Mason with the Bell Lodge #322 in Bethesda and was also a master mechanic.

He is survived by his wife, Bettie Swaims of Batesville; son, Johnnie Swaims, Jr. (Kala) of Benton; Renee Riggan (Billy) of Lonsdale; brothers, Paul Swaims (Bonnie) and Buck Swaim (Sharron) of Batesville; sisters, Janet Poole and Loressia Fulbright all of Batesville; step-father, Lindy McDonald of Bald Knob; grandchildren, Wesley, Bradley, Sarah Myers and John Kuper, Kole , Kalyn and Kirby Swaims and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and one uncle, Eldus Fitzsimmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin granddaughters.

Visitation will be Friday, September 4, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Barnes Cemetery in Batesville with military and Little Rock Police honors.
