| | | Norma Jane Hughes Stevens, 88, entered the Lord’s Heavenly Choir on September 16, 2009. Mrs. Stevens was born on October 12, 1920 in Judsonia, AR, the daughter of Sidney Thomas Hughes and Lucille Miller Hughes of Judsonia. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Judsonia where she served as an active choir member for many years, a Sunday School teacher, and an accompanist for Wednesday services.
Mrs. Stevens was a participant in many vocal competitions during her high school years at Judsonia High School singing in a trio with her classmates. As a World War II bride, she ran in the sugar cane fields as Pearl Harbor was being attacked.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph Stevens, two sisters, Rosalie Hassell of Judsonia and Mildred Warren of Beebe. She is survived by a daughter Phyllis Steward of Judsonia, a grandson Bryan Steward of Anchorage, AK, a granddaughter Jamie Burt (Todd) of Judsonia, AR, and four great-grandchildren Kristen Burt, Korbyn Steward, Logan Burt, and Kaedyn Steward.
Services will be conducted by Powell Funeral Home of Bald Knob at First Baptist Church in Judsonia on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to Judsonia First Baptist Church Children’s Department or Music Department. www.powellfuneralhome.net
