| | | Mattie Irene Stevens, 98, of Vilonia entered her heavenly home Friday, October 9, 2009. She was born January 11, 1911 at Judsonia to the late Josiah Hoofman and Delia LuElla Hulsey Hoofman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Theodore “Ted” Stevens; daughter, Dorothy Stevens Grider; three sisters, Bertha Sterling, Estelle Stevens and Katherine McCravey; four brothers, Bernest, Calvin, Myrt and Plez Hoofman.
She is survived by two daughters, Arzella Stevens and Violet Lee and husband Von, Vilonia; grandchildren, Glenda and Hal Sellers, Vilonia; Beth and David Swaim, Van Buren; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Byron Baker, Vilonia, Steven Sellers, Alma, and Haley Swaim, Van Buren.; great-great-granddaughter, Leah Brooke Baker; four brothers, O’Neal Hoofman (Jefferene), Vilonia, Jacob Hoofman (Marie), Judsonia, Joseph Eli Hoofman (Juanita), Alexander and Conley Hoofman (Phyllis), Visalia, Ca.; aunt, Mary Hulsey (104 years of age) and uncle Ernie Hulsey (Florine), Judsonia; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Vilonia. As a young teenager, she was saved and baptized at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Judsonia and was always faithful in church attendance until her health failed at age 94. She was a wonderful example as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and to all who knew her.
Visitation will be Saturday, 5-7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob. Services will be Monday, October 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Vilonia. Interment will follow in the Vilonia Cemetery by Powell Funeral Home, Bald Knob-Judsonia. Memorials can be made to Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, P.O.
