| | | Dorothy “Dot” Yingling, 82, of Searcy, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, October 7, 2009. She was born in Hickory Ridge, Arkansas, on May 16, 1927, and was preceded in death by her parents, Dewitt and Lena Munger; a son, Phillip Yingling; and siblings Elvin Munger, F. D. Munger, Hettie White, and Louise Lee.
She attended Harding College where she was selected as May Queen before graduating in 1948. She taught students in the 5th and 6th grade at Sylvan Hills Elementary for 14 years and students in the 4th and 5th grade at McRae Elementary and Southwest Middle School in Searcy for 20 years. She served as Executive Director of the Kensett Authority after retiring from teaching. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ. She was known for her beauty, grace, service to others and love for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lewis Yingling; sons Dewitt Yingling and wife Debbie of Beebe and Jon David Yingling and wife Kim of Searcy; beloved grandchildren, Sebastion Yingling of Little Rock, Christina Yingling of Beebe, and Kevin, Trent and Derek Yingling of Searcy; one sister, Lena Mae West of North Little Rock; a very special friend of 65 years, Lou Lawyer; and numerous dear nieces, nephews, friends and former students.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Searcy Children’s Home or White County Habitat for Humanity.
Funeral services are Sunday at 2:00 pm at the Westside Church of Christ. Visitation is Saturday from 5 to 7 pm at the Powell Funeral Home of Searcy. www.powellfuneralhome.net
