He was born May 24, 1923 in Jamestown, the son of Raymond L. and Laura Himes Pangborn.
Mr. Pangborn was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Cavalry in Germany and France. Prior to retiring, he had been employed as a sheet metal worker at Ulrich Planfiling Equipment Corp., and earlier had worked at Seneca Steel Co. He had also operated his own landscaping and lawn rolling business.
He was a former member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Always a happy person, he never had a dull moment, and enjoyed a good meal. He liked to stock up on supplies, and never bought only one of anything. He was once asked by his daughter-in-law Karen if there was anything that he had only one of, to which he replied: “Yes, would you like to see it?” He liked to fish for muskellunge, and as a hobby bought and sold Wheelhorse and Gravely tractors.
Surviving are his wife, Naomi I. Ellis Pangborn, whom he married April 11, 1944; two sons: Raymond L. Pangborn of Jamestown, and Rick Pangborn of Chaffee, N.Y.; three grandchildren: Richard (Jennifer) Pangborn of Maryland, Rodney (Terri) Pangborn of Alaska, currently serving with the U.S. Air Force in Iraq, and Kathy (Marc) Gleason of Little Genesee, N.Y.; nine great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and a sister, Irene Sweeney of Busti.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Pangborn; and by his brothers Kenneth, Donald, and Eddy Pangborn.
The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the funeral service Saturday in the funeral home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those wishing may make memorials to the American Diabetes Association, 595 Blossom Rd. Suite 208, Rochester NY 14610; or to a charity of choice.
