Robert W. “Bob” Benson, 54, of 284 Broadhead Ave., died unexpectedly Monday (March 23, 2009) in WCA Hospital.
He was born March 6, 1955 in Jamestown, and attended Jamestown Public Schools.
Bob was employed in the maintenance department of Quality Markets for over 20 years, and earlier had worked at the former Jamestown Veneer and Plywood Co.
He was a former member of the Moose Club.
Always a person who would do anything to help others, he loved children and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He liked roller skating and ice skating, and enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee.
Surviving are three stepdaughters: Cindy (Mitch) Parsons of Stockton, and Sabrina (Mike) Keith and Amanda Bianco (Joe Karash) of Jamestown; two stepsons: Jim (Stephanie) Holmberg and Jeff (Jody) Jolly, both of Jamestown; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Benson; and by his long time companion, Alice Hallowell, who died Dec. 7, 2005.
The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and for one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday in the funeral home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
