Hoyt P. Roberson, 79, of Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing, formerly of 303 W. Fifth St. and 54 W. 11th St., died at 4:00 P.M. Wednesday (March 25, 2009) in WCA Hospital.
He was born March 26, 1929 in Buffalo, the son of Percy H. Roberson and Alma Roberson McCarroll.
Mr. Roberson was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving from 1947 to 1952, and was a 1971 graduate of Jamestown Community College.
He had been employed for twelve years at Value Home Center, and earlier had worked for the Minute Man Service Stations, WCA Hospital, Blackstone Corp., and Art Metal Manufacturing Co.
He was a life member of John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ira Lou Spring Post 149, American Legion, and was a former member of the War Vets Recreation.
An avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabers, he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved working with children with the foster grandparent program at George Washington Middle School.
Surviving are his former wife, Dorothy “Jerry” Roberson of Jamestown; two daughters: Robin Roberson (Mike) Mullen and Roxanne Roberson (Matt) Hitchcock, both of Jamestown; a son, Roylee H. (Alicia) Roberson of Tucson, Ariz.; eight grandchildren: Dawn (John) Pickett, Michael Mullen, Jr., Alex Mullen, Nicole Hitchcock, Brandon Hitchcock, and Shannah Hitchcock, all of Jamestown, and Tyler and Jessica Roberson, both of Tucson, Ariz.; and a great granddaughter, McKenzie Pickett of Jamestown.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Carl McCarroll; a son, Roy Roberson; and by a sister, Alma Lou Brand.
The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Douglas Knopp, pastor of Christ First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. today and for one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday in the funeral home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
