Eleanore A. Bergquist, 86, a long time Jamestown resident, passed on Saturday, March 28, 2009 in WCA Hospital.
She was born October 2, 1922 in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Clarence M. and Hilvie C. Johnson Anderson.
Eleanore was a graduate of Jamestown High School, class of 1939, and Otterbien College in Westerville, Ohio in 1943. Educated and licensed as a dietitian, she worked for Kroger, Inc., Jamestown General Hospital, and later for the Fenton Park and King Manor nursing homes.
As a person who believed in giving back to her community she participated in AAUW, YWCA, volunteered at the WCA Hospital Snack Shop, and at St. Susan’s Center in its original location at the St. James School. She was a life long member of the Stillwater United Methodist Church.
Eleanore married the late C. Robert Bergquist on November 15, 1947. He predeceased her on Aug. 19, 1989. She is survived by three children: Ann B. Lehner of Delaware, Ohio, Mary B. (Bob) Van Stry of Haymarket, Va., and C. Robert Bergquist, Jr. (Mary Tracy) of Jamestown; four granddaughters: Sarah A. Van Stry of Helena, Mt., Megan B. Van Stry of Haymarket, Va., Corry A. (Jason) Del Col of Radnor, Ohio, and Carey (Amit) Agarwal of Westerville, Oh.; five great grandchildren” Carrisha, Jocelynn, Dylan, Alexandria, and Ethan; and a sister, Norma A. Christensen of Middleport, N.Y.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy A. (Robert T.) Peterson.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
