Ralph C. Whitmire

 
Ralph C. Whitmire, 88, formerly of 32 Mapleshade Ave., Falconer, died at 12:55 A.M. Monday (April 20, 2009) in WCA Hospital.
He was born Nov. 30, 1920 in Oakland Twp., Pa., the son of Everett B. and Elma Belle Wachob Whitmire.
He was a 1938 graduate of New Castle (Pa.) High School, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1945.
Prior to retiring in 1986, he was employed by Blackstone Manufacturing Corp. where he had worked in the maintenance department. Earlier he was the owner of the Maple Leaf Grill in Jamestown and the Oasis Tavern in Falconer.
He was an exempt member of the Falconer Volunteer Fire Department, and had received an award for fifty years of membership in 2005. He was also a member of Thule Lodge and was a life member of the Falconer Rod and Gun Club. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Scottish Rite Masons in New Castle, Pa.
He was an avid hunter and was formerly a licensed pilot.
Surviving are three daughters: Sandra Lee of Kent, Ohio, Patricia A. Cooper of Chardon, Ohio, and Susan R. Connally of Golden, Col.; and four grandchildren: William W. and Erica K. Cooper of Chardon, Ohio, and Matthew B. and Katelyn M. Connally of Golden, Col.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elma Koivula Whitmire, whom he married June 17, 1939 in Lisbon, Ohio, and who died March 3, 2001; and by four brothers: Lee, Merrill, John, and Charles Whitmire.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Inurnment will take place at a later date in New Castle, Pa. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
The family suggests that those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the Falconer Volunteer Fire Dept.
