| | | John A. Sloan, 58, of 3768 Westman Rd., Bemus Point, died Wednesday (June 24, 2009) at his home.
He was born Sept. 19, 1950 in Ogdensburg, N.Y., the son of Allen H. and Anna Mary Derouchie Sloan.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, and had been employed for over twenty years as a repairer/installer with Windstream.
John was always very proud of his children and their accomplishments. He was an avid runner, enjoyed rabbit hunting, and was a great fan of the Maple Grove High School football team.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne E. West Sloan, whom he married Aug. 31, 1985 in St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Bemus Point; a daughter, Katie E. Sloan and a son, Andrew A. Sloan, both of Bemus Point; and by a sister, Rebecca Gagnon (fiancé George Langston) of Cromwell, Conn.
He was preceded in death by his father on Dec. 27, 2003; his mother on March 1, 2005; and by a sister, Mary E. Sloan.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday in St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Bemus Point. The Rev. Mary L. Krahn will officiate. Inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton, N.Y.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
