She was born Dec. 22, 1918 on a farm near Sugar Grove, Pa., the second of six children of George and Ruth Holmquist Burkland.
A graduate of Jamestown High School, in earlier years she had been employed as a secretary at Anderson Screw Products. She had formerly attended Zion Covenant Church.
Always devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she was very family oriented. She loved flowers and preparing the foods that she and her husband grew in their garden, and could always be counted on to have home-made cookies and pies on hand. She was always very easy to please and appreciative of everything that was done for her. Never one to complain, she was of a strong nature and always put the needs of others before her own. Her strength and devotion was unending, as she cared for her late husband Howard during his final years.
She is survived by a son, James D. (Kathleen) Hall of West Ellicott; three daughters: Sharon L. (Jeffrey) Present of Bemus Point, Cynthia A. (David) DeJoseph of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Bonnie C. (Stewart) Anderson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nine grandchildren: Julia E. (Bill) Steen of Bemus Point, Leanne A. (Greg) Pineo of North East, Pa., Jess P. (Erin) Present of Clarence, N.Y., Christopher J. (Rachel) Hall of Los Angeles, Calif., Alanna K. (Eric) Landin of Jamestown, Nicholas D. DeJoseph of Eugene, Ore., Tara L. and Shanna C. DeJoseph, both of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and David S. Anderson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; six great grandchildren: William and Alyssa Steen of Bemus Point; Owen and Olivia Pineo of North East, Pa., and Tyler and Taylor Rippeth of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and by a brother, George Burkland of Fredonia.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard G. Hall, whom she married March 7, 1948, and who died May 22, 2000; and by four sisters: Janice Hanselman, Geneva Burkland, Garnet Lamberson, and Irene Rogers.
The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Miller of Zion Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday in the funeral home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
