| | | | Percy L. Allen, 83, of 3263 Busti-Stillwater Rd., Jamestown, died at 7:30 P.M. Friday (July 24, 2009) in WCA Hospital.
He was born Dec. 21, 1925 in Beaumont, Tex., the son of Percy L. Sr. and Bertie Taylor Allen.
A four year U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he had served aboard the U.S.S. D.J. Buckley.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Allen had been employed by the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities, and in earlier years had owned and operated Jamestown Tree Service.
He was a member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion of Celoron and the First Lutheran Church, where he had served as an usher for thirty years. He enjoyed doing yard work.
Surviving are his wife, Floris Billquist Allen; a daughter, Kathy Ziebart of Ashville; three sons: Tim and David Allen of Jamestown, and Robert Allen of Arvada, Col.; two grandchildren: Shawn Allen of Grand Junction, Col., and Scott Allen of Fincastle, Va.; a great grandson, Joshua Allen of Fincastle, Va.; and a brother, Louis Allen of Texas.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Allen; two brothers: Ed Allen and George Gibson; and by a sister: Evelyn Allen.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Billy Banks, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service Monday in the Fellowship Room of the church. Email condolences may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
