| | | Warren G. Arters, 86, of 618 West Seventh St., died at 7:40 P.M. Tuesday (Sept. 15, 2009) in Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing.
He was born Oct.27, 1922 in Spencerville, Ohio, the son of George L. and Eleanor V. Stevens Arters.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had been employed for over 30 years as a machine operator at Mason Carvings before retiring in 2006. In earlier years he had worked at Sterlingworth Corp. He was a member of Emmanuel Temple.
Always having an interest in his family’s history, he had a remarkable memory and liked a good joke. He loved gardening and working on his house, and loved riding his bicycle, which he did up until the past few months.
He is survived by a brother, Stewart E. Arters of Fredonia; a brother-in-law, Vivian Johnson of Jamestown; seven nieces and nephews: Beverly Spayde of Rochester, Cheryll (Cleatis) Jeffcoat of Texas, Karen Gennuso of Georgia, David, Steven, and Susan Arters, all of Fredonia, and Douglas (Alba) Arters of Jamestown; and several great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Merlene Johnson Arters, whom he married May 2, 1972, and who died Dec. 23, 2001; and by a brother, Robert Arters.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Monday in Emmanuel Temple. The Rev. Uvie Stewart and the Rev. Carmen Taylor will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, Pa.
