| | | | Hazel Evelyn Hickox, 89, of 31 Guyton Ave., West Ellicott, entered in to her heavenly reward and the arms of Jesus her Lord and Saviour on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 4:00 A.M.
She was born Sept. 3, 1920 in Jamestown, the daughter of John August and Eva Eliza Darling Anderson. She was a 1939 graduate of Celoron High School.
She married Homer C. Hickox on Dec. 14, 1940; he preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 1998.
In 1942 she was employed by Marlin-Rockwell Corp. as part of the home front World War II war effort. In 1943 along with her husband she moved to Geneva, N.Y., and was employed by the Home Dairy Restaurant, and in 1944 she was employed by Warder’s Awning Company manufacturing water proof bunk covers for the U.S. Navy. Following her husband’s discharge from the Navy they returned to the Jamestown area.
Along with her husband they became supporters of Living Waters Open Bible Church, 946 Southwestern Drive, Busti in 1983. In 1985 when the church was destroyed by a tornado, they were hands-on volunteers helping with the re-building of the church, where she was especially proficient in painting and wall papering. She was co-founder of the People that Care Food and Clothing Pantry at Living Waters with the Women of the Word.
Mrs. Hickox loved animals, gardening, sewing, and cooking. Many will remember her ability to tell humorous stories.
Survivng are a son, The Rev. Dr. Philip (Diane) Hickox of Jamestown; a daughter, Pamela D. (Stephen) Piazza of West Ellicott; three grandchildren: Stephen J. Piazza II of West Ellicott, Shavonne C. Milk of Celoron, and Jessica Hickox of Jamestown; two great grandchildren: Saige T. Milk and Noah James Milk, both of Celoron; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters: Marie Main and Dorothy Anderson.
The funeral will be at 5:00 P.M. Tuesday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Philip H. Hickox, her son and pastor of Living Waters Open Bible Church will officiate. .
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the funeral service Tuesday in the funeral home. Messages to the family may be sent by visiting the website www.presentsixbeyfuneral.com.
