| | | | Jeanne W. Skelton, 90, of 637 Lakeview Ave., went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 8:50 P.M. Friday (March 2, 2012) in the Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born Sept. 18, 1921 in Jamestown, the daughter of Earl A. and Ethel Forrer Weakley.
A 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School, she also earned a degree from the Victory Bible Institute.
Prior to retiring, she had been employed as a secretary at the former Marine Midland Bank, and had also been a licensed pilot and a tour guide and docent at the Fenton Mansion. In earlier years she had assisted her husband as a bookkeeper at Jamestown Aviation Co.
She was a member of Zion Covenant Church, where she had taught Bible study classes for many years.
An independent person, she had a great wit and a wonderful sense of humor. She enjoyed Bible study, research, and teaching. She loved shopping, and loved her cat “Smokey”.
Surviving are a son, Stephen W. (Barbara) Skelton of Jamestown; seven grandchildren: Dr. Chad N. Hunter of Dayton, Oh., Katherine C. (Eric) Peters of N. Huntingdon, Pa., Natalie A. Sorice of N. Versailles, Pa., Christopher S. (Carey) Skelton of Jamestown, Amanda J. (Jeremy) Cates of Akron, Oh., Laura E. Skelton of Jamestown, and Martin W. Skelton of Gothenburg, Sweden; three great grandchildren: Henry W. and Nicholas D. Peters of N. Huntingdon, Pa., and Rylan M. Sorice of N. Versailles, Pa.; a brother, Thomas E. (Barbara) Weakley of Arlington, Vt.; two nieces: Jeanne H. Norred of Cota De Caza, Calif. And Margaret Oceanna of Vermont; and three nephews: G. James McCray of Glenwood, N.Y., Michael E. McCray of Murietta, Calif., and Christopher E. Weakley of Sherman Oaks, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren J. Skelton, whom she married May 21, 1947 in Jamestown, and who died Feb. 9, 1993; a daughter, Marcy S. Sorice; a step son, William E. Skelton; and by a sister, Miriam McCray.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in Zion Covenant Church The Rev. Rick Miller of Zion Covenant Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
