| | | | Cecil S. Adams, Sr., 93, of 2586 Maple Street, Jamestown, died at 6:15 A.M. Tuesday (May 4, 2004) in his home.
He was born October 29, 1910 on Great Burin Island, Newfoundland, Canada, a son of John and Lillian Mitchell Adams. He came to the United States in 1928 and had been a resident of the Jamestown area since coming here from New York City in 1936.
From 1928 until his retirement in 1975 he had been employed as a lineman for Postal Telegraph, Western Union, and Alltel Telephone Company, working on line projects in ten different states. Following his retirement he worked part-time as a bus driver for The Resource Center until 1985.
He was a member of the Jamestown Church of the Nazarene.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, and was a fan of the New York Yankees.
He is survived by a son, Jerome Adams of Bemus Point; six grandchildren: James and Guy Adams, both of Ashville, Jeri Baer of Lakewood, Jason Adams of Bemus Point, Andrew Adams of Westport, Mass., and Dana Adams of Huntsville, Ala; eleven great grandchildren; and five sisters in Canada.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elizabeth Grandy, whom he married September 7, 1936, and who died April 19, 1999; a son, Cecil S. Adams, Jr., who died August 9, 1996; and by two brothers: Ronald and Herbert Adams.
A graveside service will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Keith McEntire, pastor of the Jamestown Church of the Nazarene will officiate.
