| | | Opal L. Kerschner, 83, of Clinton, Iowa died at 7:40 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Mercy Living Center, Clinton.
Born April 26, 1926 in Burlington, Iowa she was the daughter of Edward W. and Della G. Hardesty Armpriest. On June 24, 1944 she married James W. Gentry in Burlington, Iowa. He died on December 7, 1959. On May 11, 1969 she married Virgil L. Kerschner in Lomax, Illinois. He died on January 2, 1997.
Opal served in various school and church offices. She was President of Saunderson PTA from 1956 – 1957. She was secretary for the First Christian Church from 1960- 1966. She was a secretary for Maintenance & Transportation Division of Burlington School District from 1968 – 1971. She was affiliated with the First Christian Church. Her hobbies included ceramics, crocheting and knitting. She also belonged to a pinochle club for over 15 years. Her family was the most important part of her life and she loved to make meals for large family gatherings. Opal was a loving mother, grandmother and devoted wife.
She is survived by one daughter, Connie J. Gentry of CA; two sons, Michael J. (Michele) Gentry of Camanche, IA and Edward W. Gentry of Fairfield, IA; two step-children, Romona Gonzalez and Virgil Kerschner of IA; five grandchildren, Michael Jr. (Erica), Matthew, G.G. (Mike), James (April) and Hoyt (Sheila); one step-grandchild, Mona (Mark); eight great-grandchildren, Dylan, Dalton, Courtney, Cheyanne, Kaitlon, Jacob, Preston and Peyton; and four step-great-grandchildren, Talia, Nicholas, Dru and Tyler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one infant brother; and three sisters, Pearl, Marion and Beryl.
Funeral services for Opal L. Kerschner will be held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Pastor Tom Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
