Elwood Brockway, 85, of Burlington died at Great River Medical Center Rehab, West Burlington, IA, on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 1:41 p.m.

Born on October 14, 1923, he was the son of Archie Lee and Ella Mae Goble Brockway. He married Patricia A.Welch on June 28, 1946, in Burlington, Iowa

Elwood was a Seabee in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Eagles Club and American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, U. of Iowa sports, Southeastern Community College sports, and especially baseball. He was a Little League coach for many years and co-managed the 1960 Iowa State Champion Little League team. He was affiliated with SS Mary & Patrick Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; two sons, Steve (Sue) and Tom Brockway of Burlington; six sisters, Marjorie Rice, Marian Andries, Eleanor Breuer, Pauline Massey, Gladys Wiley and Delores Christofferson; four grandchildren, Kara, Jennifer, Morgan and Tyler; three great-grandchildren, Addison, Alexis, Julia; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Viola Basquin and Mary Malone, and one brother, Robert Brockway.

Funeral services for Elwood Brockway will be held on Friday, September 18, 2009, at 11:00 p.m. at Prugh’s Chapel. Fr, John Ebbesmeir will officiate. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Special Needs.
