Margarette E. Mesecher, 85, of Burlington died at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009 at Great River Klein Center, Burlington, Iowa.

She was born on June 4 , 1924 in Fairfield, Iowa to George J. and Wilhelmina Margaret Vickers Shaw. She married Wilbur E. “Gene” Mesecher on January 27, 1956 in Burlington, Iowa.

Margarette was a self-employed in the family heating and air conditioning business. She also worked at the I.A.A.P. Ordinance Plant for 15 years. She was a member of the D.A.R., National Huguenot Society, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, Colonial Order of the Crown, World War II Memorial Society and Sam’s Camping Club. She was a Dame of the Magna Carta and a recipient of the Martha Washington Medal. She was a member of United Methodist Church, West Burlington, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband, “Gene”; one son, George Herman (Sue) Moehle of Burlington; one step-son, Alan Eugene (Julie) Mesecher of Orange, Texas; two step-daughters, Charlotte Jean Blanchard of Ft. Edwards, New York and Shirley (Jim) Bodnar of Schuylerville, New York; one brother, William Shaw of Burlington; one sister, Mary Bolander of Lebanon, Missouri; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Frank, Harold, George and John; and two sisters, Catherine and Ruth.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Prugh's Chapel. Pastor Jackie Bradford will officiate. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
