Fernand E. Fournier, 87, died on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Starr Farm Nursing Home following a long illness.

He was born in Newport Center, VT, July 22, 1921, the son of Maxmillian and Eugenie (Lachapelle) Fournier. He was married in St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Burlington on May 27, 1946 to Pauline Choquette who predeceased him on March 4, 1989. In 1991 he married Ernestine DeGraff.

He was employed in the physical plant at UVM until his retirement April 30, 1986. He was a member of St. John Vianney’s parish.

He always had a great garden, especially those fresh tomatoes.

He is survived by his wife Ernestine Fournier of Burlington, his children and their spouses, Diane and Michael Scrodin of Colchester, Marc Fournier of Randall, MA, Paul and Julie Fournier of Hinesburg, Monica and William Barry of Paris, France.; 13 grandchildren Brian and Ly Carbonneau of Dallas, GA, Erik and Carolina Carbonneau of Pembroke Pines, FL, Alison and Justin Breen of Maplewood, NJ, Jon Carbonneau of S. Burlington, Simone and Nicholas Fournier of Nantucket, MA, Ashley and Timothy Fournier of Hinesburg, Philip and Peter Barry of Paris, France; three great grandchildren Vivian and Stephen Carbonneau, Kieran Breen, also several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2008 in St. John Vianney’s Roman Catholic Church with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington. For those who wish contributions in his memory may be sent to Starr Farm Nursing Home, 98 Starr Farm Road, Burlington, VT 05401. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 30th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Services, South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington.
