Dr. Kendrick R. Lawrence, 79, of Essex Junction, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at the Vermont Respite House following a long illness.

He was born in Burlington, VT on May 15, 1929 the son of Mabel Morrill and Milo Lawrence and was raised by his mother and stepfather Edwin Hall. Ken graduated from Stowe High School in 1947, received his Bachelor’s degree from UVM in 1951, and his D.D.S. degree from Baltimore Dental School in 1956. He served in the US Navy Dental Corp., Bainbridge, MD for two years as a Lieutenant immediately following dental school.

Ken was married to Carlene Beattie at the Congregational Church in Guildhall, VT on June 23, 1951. He established his dental practice in Essex Junction in 1958, retiring in 1985. Ken worked for the State of Vermont Department of Health, Dental Division from 1986 to 1992.

Ken was a member of the First Congregational Church in Essex Junction for 50 years. He was very active in the church serving as a deacon and former president of the trustees and ushering committee. He was a charter member of Essex Rotary, former P.T.A. President of the Essex Town Schools and a Jaycee member.

Ken’s greatest joy was his 43 summers spent at camp on Keeler Bay in So. Hero with his family and close friends. He especially enjoyed boating and taught many people to water ski. He looked forward to winter vacations in Green Valley, AZ, water skiing, snow skiing, planting flowers, and cherished his beloved dogs. After retiring he started making silver jewelry and participated in craft shows for 19 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carlene Lawrence of Essex Jct.; his children and their spouses, Sue Mason and husband Frank of Milton, Michael Lawrence and wife Chris of Essex Jct., Kim Sandercock and husband Terry of Bethlehem, PA, Carla Lawrence of Waterbury, VT; grandchildren, Jay and Jon Lawrence, and Brady and Tucker Sandercock; his sister Lorraine and husband Rev. David Suetterlein of Monmouth, ME; sisters-in-law Natalie Beattie of Waterbury, VT and Norma Beattie of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 2:00 pm in the First Congregational Church, Essex Jct. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ken’s memory may be made to the VNA/Hospice, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446 or to the Vermont Respite House, 99 Allenbrook Ln., Williston, VT 05495.
