  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Marianne O’Connor Kendall, beloved mother, grandmother and friend, of Shelburne, VT died unexpectedly on Friday, August 1, 2008. At the time of her death, she was happily vacationing by the seashore in Wells, Maine.

Marianne was born in Bellows Falls, VT on December 13, 1929 the daughter of Reginald and Julia (Howard) O’Connor. She graduated from St. Charles Parochial School and Bellows Falls High School and began working for New England Telephone as a telephone operator in the early 1950’s.

She married Stewart Kendall on November 20, 1953. They moved to Rutland, VT in 1959. In 1967, Stewart, who also worked for the telephone company, was transferred to the Burlington area. They made their home in Shelburne, VT. Marianne was a full time homemaker and mom to her two sons while they were small. When they were in high school, she worked in the Shelburne School System and then began working at UVM in the Residential Life Department. For 15 years, she was the Hall Complex Secretary and friendly face at Marsh Austin Tupper.

Marianne had a lifelong love of music and the entertainment field. Her vocal repertoire ranged from jazz standards to show tunes to children’s lullabies to Irish ballads. In addition to her musical abilities, Marianne was a gifted make-up artist who lent her talents to many local community theatres. She was a member of the Champlain Valley Players, Shelburne Korny Kapers and a founding member of Lyric Theatre Company. With Lyric, she was involved with over 50 productions and had been awarded the status of lifetime member.

Marianne loved her home and her gardens but the love of her life was her family. She loved Christmas and spent many hours with her grandchildren putting up her Christmas tree and elaborate villages. St. Patrick’s Day dinners were a wonderful celebration of her Irish heritage as were family birthday celebrations. Marianne also introduced her grandchildren to restaurants and shared many trips to “Friendly’s” when they were small. She shared her love of the ocean with her grandchildren on many vacations to the Maine coast and was delighted with the family trip to Disney World in 1999.

Marianne was blessed with a beautiful family and many wonderful friends. She was a longtime communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Shelburne. Her life was full. She will be missed.

She leaves behind her sons; Stephen and his wife Kelly and their three children Reilly, Kate and Connor of South Burlington; Barry and his wife Lynn and their sons Thomas and Tynan. She also leaves her very good friends Dot Edgerton and Janine Kenney as well as her beloved niece Denise Andricin. She was predeceased by her mother Julia in 1946, her father Reginald in 1966 and her husband Stewart in 1982.

I will walk my earth in love
until time ends.
When it does, there will be
eternity and I will travel on.
With all my love and no good byes
To each of you
Whose caring presence has
graced my life.
