| | | Thelma Janet (Jeanette) Izzo, 89, died unexpectedly July 31, 2008 at Birchwood Nursing Home after a recent injury to her hip.
Born in 1919 in Northfield, VT, she later grew up in Malletts Bay. She was the daughter of Edward Albert Proulx and Anna LaCroix Proulx. At 16 she met Mario Ralph Izzo and fell in love at first sight. She married Mario on August 11, 1941 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Burlington, VT. He predeceased her in 1981. She graduated from Ellie’s School of Cosmetology and had a successful career as the owner and operator of Marinan’s Beauty Salon on Church Street for many years.
Throughout her life she was a Member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, The Catholic Center at the University of Vermont, and the Catholic Daughters. She will be missed by her family and her many friends at the Heineberg Senior Center and at St. Joseph’s Residential Home. The family would like to thank Father Thomas Ball and the staff at Birchwood Nursing Home for all their help and support.
She is survived by her children Louis Mario Izzo and wife, Carol Ann of Williston, VT; and Frances Mary Izzo Roth and her husband, Stephen Roth, of Buffalo, NY. She was the proud grandmother of Antonio Dominic Izzo, and his wife Stacy Thurm, of Burlington, NC; Maria Izzo and her husband Ronald E. Walker, of Bloomington, IN; Forrest Stephen Roth of Buffalo, NY; Zachary Fairbanks Roth, and his wife Heather Mealey, of Rochester, NY; and Gianna Izzo and her husband, Armand Messier, of Swanton, VT. She was blessed with five great-grandchildren: Evan Micah Izzo and Ari Thurman Izzo of Burlington, NC; Lucia Caroline Walker and Nicolas Edward Walker of Bloomington, IN, and Zachary Thomas Roth of Rochester, NY. In addition, she is survived by her sisters Norma Bernardini of Burlington, VT and Doris Marcelino and her husband Martino of Colchester, VT; and her brother Paul Proulx and his wife, Janice of Colchester, VT. She was predeceased by her infant sister, Anita, and brother, Edward Proulx, Jr. of Colchester. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Throughout her long life she is best remembered for her great love and generosity she showed her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Monday August 4, 2008 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. In Thelma’s memory, donations may be sent to the Vermont Association of the Blind, 37 Elmwood Avenue, Burlington, VT 05401, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, Canton, OH 44720.
