Roger P. Lochhead, MD, 84, of South Burlington, VT, died on Saturday August 2, 2008 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care, in Burlington.
He was the son of Archie and Suzanne (Aubry) Lochhead, born on May 23, 1924 in New York, NY. He graduated from Montclair High School and served in the US Navy during WWII as a pharmacist mate first class aboard the USS Tortuga. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College in 1946, and his MD from Cornell University Medical College in 1951.
Lochhead practiced internal medicine and cardiology at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ for 30 years and later in Hawaii, Georgia, and Cape Cod. He was a trustee of the NJ Academy of Medicine, the Essex County Heart Association and the Cape Cod Heart Association.
Lochhead was class secretary for his medical school class for more than fifty years. After retirement, he served his local community in Chatham, MA at the Chatham Historical Society, the Eldredge Public Library, and the Friends of Pleasant Bay. Lochhead cultivated bonsai and was also prolific in Chinese brush painting, primitive American painting, sculpting and woodworking.
He is survived by his sons Cameron of Basking Ridge NJ, and David of North Caldwell NJ, and his daughter Alison Sacknowitz of Westford, MA. He also leaves his grand children Morgan, Jameson and Liam Lochhead, and Anna and Samuel Sacknowitz; his sister Suzanne Mink of So. Burlington, VT; and several nieces and nephews including Susan Geise, Pam Cary and Tread Mink. He was predeceased by his sister Claire Anderson and twin brother Donald Lochhead.
