  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Laura Jean Cousens, 28 of Burlington, died at Fletcher Allen Health Care on August 6, 2008. Her passing was a tragic, unexpected loss and she will be sorely missed.
Born in Sedalia, MO, Laura was the daughter of Mary (Ross) Dunne of Burlington and Jeff Cousens of Kansas.

Laura graduated from South Burlington high School in 1988. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Laura was especially loving and caring of her grandfather, known affectionately as "Kippy". She also thoroughly enjoyed her work as a baker at Cucina Antica in Shelburne and had planned to attend the New England Culinary Institute in January to fulfill her dream of becoming a pastry chef.

Laura was a gifted writer. She wrote many articles that were published in a Vermont newspaper about life's struggles and joys. Laura also enjoyed music and was a gifted piano player. For relaxation she enjoyed crocheting and made beautiful blankets, hats, and mittens. She had a great love for animals and will be sadly missed by her golden retriever, Sammy. Laura's most notable gift was her eternal optimism, even in the face of adversity. She truly brought sunshine to all the lives she touched. All who loved her will sorely miss her joyful zest for life and her caring ways....Laura was a true caregiver.

In addition to her parents, Laura is survived by the following who loved her deeply, her stepfather Michael Dunne, her sisters Heather Gale and Erin Dunne, her brother Sean Dunne, her grandparents Robert and Shirley Ross, her uncle and best buddy David Ross, all of Burlington, her aunt and uncle Laura and Greg Wolf and her cousin, Lily, of Underhill, her aunt Nancy Bean and Nancy's partner Ken Babineau and her cousin Chloe Bean of Burlington; her uncle Tom Bean of Colchester; her uncles John Ross, Mike Ross, and Steve Ross, and cousins Jesse, Angela, Matt, Sara, Lydia, Marissa, Elias and Malachai all of Colorado, and her precious nephew Nathanial Gale; grandmother, Beverly Cousens of North Carolina, and uncle Bob Cousens of New Hampshire. She is also survived by her extended family, her step grandmother, Bunny Barry, her uncle Edmund Dunne, aunt Ellen Dunne and her husband Michael Curran all of Colchester; her aunt Brigid Browning and her husband Bob and children Evan and Ben of Middlesex, her aunt Molly and her husband Craig and children Allison and Gillian of California, and many more relatives and caring individuals too numerous to mention.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Ready Funeral & Cremation Service South Chapel, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 12, in Saint John Vianney Church, Hinesburg Road, So. Burlington with burial to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you can share Laura's love of animals by making a donation in her name to your local humane society or to the Champlain Valley Agency on Aging due to her loving devotion to her grandparents.
