Maurice (Moe) Lapierre, 78, of Burlington passed away on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008 in the Vermont Respite House after a lengthy battle with Mesothelioma.

He was born on January 11, 1930 in Burlington, the son of Leander and Anna (Trudelle) Lapierre.

Maurice started working with his dad as a very young man building homes in the community. Soon after he enlisted into the U S Marine Corps and served in Korea. Upon his return from the war he resumed his interest in the building industry and went on to found a contracting and real estate development business. He loved his work and took great pride in his craft. He built a great many homes in Burlington and the surrounding areas.

He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 38 years, Pauline and his children, step children and their spouses Robert and Anna Dorey of Milton, Robert and Bonnie Lapierre of Grand Isle, Steven Lapierre of Burlington, Catherine Lapierre of Essex Junction, Michael Lapierre and Docia Proctor of Winooski, Margaret Lapierre of Phoenix, AZ, Mark Gauthier and companion Jessica of Burlington, Scott Gauthier of Colchester, Holli Gauthier of So. Burlington, Jeffrey Gauthier and companion Lisa of So. Burlington, daughters in law Shelly Lapierre of Burlington and Sharrie Gauthier of So. Burlington.

He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses Aurora and Vernon Shea, George and Jean Lapierre; brothers and sisters in law Mary Ann Lapierre, Patrick Whitehouse, Arthur Marchessault, Paul Marcotte, Vel Marcotte, Thomas Marcotte, Gert Laramee and her husband Richard, Jackie Johnson and her husband Bruce, Dan Marcotte and his wife Mary. He also leaves 19 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons, many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sons and two step sons Roy and William Lapierre and Todd and David Gauthier, a granddaughter Christie Dusharm, a brother Roland (Joe) Lapierre, and three sisters Clarissa Whitehouse, Sister Theresa Lapierre and Rita Marchessault.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27 at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Burlington. Interment will follow at Resurrection Park, So. Burlington. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, September 26 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ready Funeral & Cremation Service at 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Respite House in Williston or VNA/Hospice of the Champlain Valley,

The family would also like to send special thanks to all those who helped care for Moe from the VNA, Vermont Respite House, Dr Chris Nunnink and his staff.
