| | | Florence Calarco, of South Burlington, Vermont, passed away in her home on September 30.
She was born October 20, 1922 in Winooski, Vermont, the daughter of Ruth and Isadore Piché.
She attended Winooski schools and married Dominic Calarco in the fall of 1941. They were happily married and best friends, laughing, crying, and relying on each other through sixty-three years of marriage. Dom’s easy-going attitude perfectly complimented Florence’s exceptional ability to lovingly critique his choice of clothing, driving, and the frequently debated cigar smoking.
Flo and Dom completed their family with two loving daughters, Sharron and Sandy, who gave them a lifetime of joy, as well as seven beautiful grandchildren.
She had a long and fruitful career working for General Electric, retiring in 1983.
As the matriarch of her family, she joyously surrounded herself with loved ones, hosting family gatherings, card games (especially King 30), and lake-side parties at camp—most of which were accompanied by her legendary spaghetti and meatballs. She enjoyed spending her summers on the lake in Grand Isle, surrounded by her family, and her winters in Florida with her friends. All who loved her will sorely miss her gentle wisdom.
Florence will be forever missed by her daughter Sharron Angolano, her grandchildren: Amy Angolano, Beth Angolano and Brian Dreibelbis, Dan Angolano, Tony and Alissa Angolano, Chris and Olivia Goddard, Shawn Goddard, and Nicole and Tom Charlton; her brother Robert Piché and his wife Pauline; her son-in-law Robert Goddard, her sisters-in-law: Ann Calarco and Frances Basiliere and their families; her fourteen great-grandchildren, as well as her life-long friends Babe and Ruth Lizotte and Shirley and Leonard Leclerc. She was predeceased by her husband Dominic, her daughter Sandra, her son-in-law Charles, two brothers and a sister.
Calling hours are from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, October 3 at the Ready South Chapel on Shelburne Road. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 4 at Christ the King Church with burial to follow at Resurrection Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice. To send online condolences to the family, visit www.readyfuneral.com
