Rose C. LaRue, 87 died on Saturday, October 25th in Cape Elizabeth, ME., where she had been residing under the loving care of her daughter Denise LaRue.

She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on January 19, 1921 the daughter of John & Ella (King) Crowley. She was married on January 23, 1943 to Arthur J. LaRue in Rumford, RI. He predeceased her on December 8, 2003.

Most of her younger years were spent in her home state of Rhode Island. She graduated from Saint Xavier’s Academy in 1939 and attended numerous professional business schools. Like many women of her generation she supported her husband and her country during World War II. She settled in Vermont in 1957. Rose was employed for many years as Assistant to the Dean of Mechanical Engineering and Assistant to the Director of Career Planning and Development at the University of Vermont.

Rose’s true home was Vermont; its four seasons and its open spaces. She also loved the ocean at Narragansett Beach, RI where she introduced her children and grandchildren to the salt sea waves. She was a painter and accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed people, especially the young students she counseled at the University of Vermont, offering them guidance and encouragement. She loved her family, her children and her children’s children.

She is survived by her three daughters, Christine Schutz and her husband Rudy of Round Top, NY, Dorothy Martinez and her husband Albert of Colchester, and Dr. Denise La Rue and her husband Robert Furman of Cape Elizabeth, ME; her grandchildren, Margaret Covey, Timothy Covey and his wife Kate, Eve Alexandra and her partner Sylvia Parker, Brian Armstrong and his wife Lora Wilson and Heather and David Furman; great grandchildren, Cherie, Amanda, Rickie, Liam, Finnian, Brogan, Greta, and Jackson.
Rose leaves her cousin : Charles Crowley, of Montreal and a brother-in-law, Robert LaRue of Spokane, Washington and many caring and devoted nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Holbrook Care Center At Piper Shores, Scarborough, Maine for their warmth and attention. Additional thanks to Meghan Wakefield for her personal and devoted care.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Ready Funeral & Cremation Service’s, Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr. Essex on Wednesday, October 29th at 12:00 noon with interment to follow in Resurrection Park Cemetery, South Burlington.
