| | | Kathleen M. McSoley, 86, of Essex died peacefully in the company of her children at Vermont Respite House on Thursday, November 20, 2008.
Kathleen was born in Providence, RI on April 23, 1922. She spent the early part of her life in Cranston, RI. On September 2, 1946, she married George F. McSoley. Kathleen was an Army wife whose travel took her to Oklahoma, North Carolina, Kansas, Washington State, California, Virginia, Italy, and Turkey before settling in Vermont in 1969. She made all of those moves and a comfortable home for her family with grace and style.
Kathleen was an active member of St. Pius X Parish, a volunteer and later a member of Essex Senior Citizens. She read avidly throughout her life. She loved to walk, bike, and roller bladed until the age of 75. Kathleen was a loving, loyal and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her children, Colleen Derry and her husband Bernard; John McSoley and his wife Donna, Joseph McSoley and his wife Nancy; and Christine McSoley. Kathleen was blessed with twelve grandchildren: Erin and Eric Derry (and his wife Elizabeth); Sean, Cara and Evangeline McSoley; Frances and William McSoley; and Caitlin, Michael, Patrick, Molly and Brendan McCormack. Her sister-in-law Hazel Cooney, several nieces, nephews and cousins, many wonderful and supportive friends and neighbors also survive her.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents Harry and Gertrude (L’Heureux) Cooney; her sister Frances and brother James Cooney; infant daughters Frances L. and Kathleen M. McSoley; her grandson Johnny; and her devoted husband of 54 years Col. George F. McSoley.
Visiting hours are from 2-4 on Sunday, November 23 at the Ready Funeral Home Mountain View Chapel, 68 Pinecrest Dr. Essex Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Pius X Church in Essex at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 24 with interment to follow in Mt. View Cemetery, Essex.
