AMY LUELLA JANSON of Pelkie and Marquette, Michigan was born on December 19, 1986 in Hancock, Michigan to Kenneth and Lael (Stern) Janson. She attended Laird School and L’Anse Area Public Schools, graduating from L’Anse High School in 2005. She attended the Association Free Lutheran Bible School in Plymouth, Minnesota and Northern Michigan University in Marquette. She was a life-long member of Grace Free Lutheran Church in Pelkie and an active and enthusiastic worshiper at Water’s Edge Church in Marquette.

Amy was a true believer in the salvation of souls through the confession of sin and the acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal savior. She made her personal commitment to the Lord in 2004 and walked with Christ as her guide and protector until she was called home. Jesus was her best friend and she never hesitated to invite others to join her in following Him.

As a young child on the farm, Amy loved the animals and delighted in sharing the milk pail with the kittens. She rode horses with her sisters, developed a keen appreciation for animal care and well-being from Mom and, as a 4H’er, exhibited several champion beef animals and earned showmanship awards. Her well-reasoned opinions influenced the genetic progress of her family’s Simmental cattle herd.

Amy served as Ship’s Navigator and master of the front half of the family’s 12-foot fishing boat. DaD must admit that, over the years, the front-end crew generally out-fished the rest of the boat. Amy enjoyed downhill skiing with all of her family, especially holiday trips to Montana.

Amy’s school activities included sports, music, plays and the National Honor Society. On the volleyball court and on the track she was a solid performer and constant encourager to her teammates. Her baritone horn was always heard as part of the pep band at L’Anse athletic events and her enthusiasm for drama club productions was contagious. Piano lessons started at age 4 and continued to her years at NMU-she played easily and with a distinctive grace that was joyful to the ear. Amy represented her school as a Youth In Government delegate and was a member of L’Anse’s WNMU-TV13 High School Quiz Bowl team.

At Bible School, Amy immersed herself in the scriptures as her personal faith was deepened and her resolve to help others grew stronger. With fellow students, she travelled to post-Katrina New Orleans as a Samaritan’s Purse volunteer. At NMU, Amy broadened her perspectives with courses in a variety of fields.

Amy is survived by her parents, sisters Alison (Michael) O’Halloran of Dallas, Texas and Kristen (Trent) Batchelor of Marquette, Uncle David Janson of Plymouth, Michigan and nephew Thomas Batchelor of Marquette. She was preceded in death by her beloved Gramma Gracie, Grace Stern of Fayette, Michigan.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012 from Grace Free Lutheran Church, Pelkie with Pastor William Chapel officiating. Interment took place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The family received friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
