| | | After fighting the good fight, Mr. Sanchez finally succumbed to prostate cancer on October 18, 2008 at his home in Willis, TX. Mr. Sanchez was born on October 22, 1933, in Laredo, TX. Since birth, he was raised by his paternal grandmother. Mrs. J. R. Sanchez. He attended Martin High School in Laredo participating in sports while excelling in football where he lettered three years in football as team quarterback. After graduation from his high school, he attended two years of college and served in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of basic training, Mr. Sanchez was selected Honor Recruit from out of about one hundred other recruits. He later served aboard the U.S.S. Princeton (CV5-37) as a Yeoman Third Class Petty Officer. After leaving the U.S. Navy, Mr. Sanchez received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. After becoming registered as a Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor and employed by several firms in Houston, TX, he started his own practice and became successful. Some of his clients included the City of Houston, County of Harris, Texas Dept. of Transportation, City of West University Place, Metropolitan Transit Authority and Friendswood. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of 40 years and the following family members: daughter, Sandra Sanchez; son, Rodrigo T. Sanchez; daughter, Diana Mari Sanchez Taylor and Husband, Christian; daughter Lisa Julia Sanchez; daughter Toni Joanna Sanchez; son, Tomas J. Sanchez, Jr. and wife, Amber; and the following grandchildren: Lee Ann, Douglas, Jezyca and Stevie. Rosary was held Monday, October 20 at 7 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis. A Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Daokim Nguyen will be held Tuesday, October 21 at 11 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly, with interment following services at Elmina Cemetery.
