Alpha Dewey, Jr.
Entered into God’s rest November 4, 2008. Born January 1, 1950 and happily married 36 years to Gail Dewey, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Regan and Rachele Frazier of Tomball, Chris and Sarah Noack of Austin, Bryan and Katie Hill of Conroe; granddaughters Grace and Kayla Frazier; sister and brother-in-law Phillip and Marie Schreher of McKinney; and brother Robert Dewey of Unadilla, NY. Preceded in death by father and mother Alpha Dewey, Sr. and Abigail Dewey; and sister Beverly Smith of Sidney, NY. A Celebration of Alpha’s life will be held at West Conroe Baptist Church, 1855 Longmire Rd., Conroe, TX at 10 AM, Saturday, November 8, 2008. Dr. Jay Gross officiating. Interment immediately following at Conroe Memorial Park. Calling hours Friday, November 7, 6:30-8:00 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Conroe Baptist Church Music Ministry.
Serving in the USMC, he was an Expert Marksman and an honorably discharged Vietnam veteran. He was employed for many years in the telephone industry, most notably as a Regional Mgr. in Houston and a Systems Division Mgr. in Austin, with his last years in the surveying industry. He was an ordained minister, with his first love being the gift of teaching. A drummer for fifty years, he loved to play in any setting. After a lengthy battle with cancer, his fight is over.
“For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8.
