Douglas Eugene Rassinier was born on December 13, 1952 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and the first male born in Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Texas. He tragically died on February 3, 2009 at the age of 56 in New Waverly, Texas.
Doug graduated from Lamar High School and attended the University of Texas. After college, he commenced a career as a general contractor beginning in home remodeling and painting and ultimately owning Restaurant Repair & Maintenance, Inc., providing services to restaurant chains throughout the south central part of the country. He founded and owned the Willis Country Club until his death.
Throughout his life he loved raising and caring for Great Danes, and was rarely without a dog. He enjoyed gardening and being and sharing with his many friends and companions.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Katherine LaRavia and husband John; Ellen Hardin and husband Steve; Linda Rassinier; Craig Rassinier and wife Celia; a niece and nephews who fondly remember their uncle for his gregarious spirit. The family offers gratitude to his friend and caregiver Delores Wright for several years of his care.
A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 10129 FM 1097 W in Willis, Texas at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 6, 2009. Contributions may be made to The Chapel, 3355 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 noting they are made in his memory or the ASPCA. A private, family commitment service will be conducted in the future. Written condolences may be left for the family on our website at www.shmfh.com.
