Walter Louis Askew passed from this life on April 25, 2009. He is welcomed into Heaven by his Heavenly Father and also by his wife Marie, who preceded him in death in 2005. Walter was born to parents Claude and Rebie Askew in Conway, NC on August 11, 1923. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he and Marie settled in Texas, where he was employed by Humble Oil Co. (Exxon) until his retirement in 1980. He is survived by three sons, Wayne Askew and wife Lin of Conroe, Neal Askew and wife Nita of Wimberle y, TX, and Keith Askew of San Antonio, TX. He was known as PawPaw by his seven grandchildren, Gale Askew, Greg and Julie Askew, Dhelynn McClellan, Lana and Ryan Rush, Alan and Amy Askew, Kevin and Rachel Askew, and Kristin and Cole Hayden. Nine great grandchildren also survive. Walter will be missed by numerous relatives and friends. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday evening between 6 PM and 8 PM at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis, TX. The memorial service will be held in the chapel at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 29. Nephews and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Willis, where Walter was a member and served as a deacon. Memorial condolences may be made online at www.shmfh.com.
