Steve was escorted by heavenly angels into the presence of the Holy Trinity on September 28, 2009. He was born in Anderson, Texas on August 2, 1917, to John Koronka and Catherine Wrobleski. As a young man, he moved to Houston to work in a café. During World War II, he served in the Pacific Theatre on the islands of Hawaii, Saipan, Okinawa, and Christmas Island. He attained the rank of corporal, and was a member of the 47th Special Construction Engineers, and the 1398th Construction Engineers. Steve married Lucille Frances Gregory, and recently celebrated their 61st anniversary. After retirement, he moved to New Waverly where he enjoyed his vegetable garden, his rose gardens, and his animals. Steve was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Houston Rose Society.
He leaves to cherish his beloved memory wife Lucille; daughter Stephanie Koronka Ried and husband Mark; son Keith Michael; and grandchildren Arthur Steven, Margaret Lucinda, and Angela Jeanette.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for Friday, October 2 from 6-8 PM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Willis, with Rosary beginning at 7 PM. Funeral Services officiated by Father Daokim Nguyen will be held Saturday, October 3 at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Waverly, with interment following service at Elmina Cemetery in New Waverly. Pallbearers include Mark Ried, Arthur Ried, Velon Saint, Dan Underwood, Nicholas Grupa, and George Nugent. Honorary Pallbearers are Charles Gregory, Norman Gregory, Ray Valigura, and The Most Reverend Bishop Vincent M. Rizzotto.
