Mathis family....Your wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother will be missed. She was very loving and gave of herself to anyone that needed help. Elaine was my valued friend and I am saddened that I could not be at the funeral. But being the angel that she is now, she knows the reason and I am sure I am forgiven. May you all find comfort in knowing she is with her Lord & Savior, awaiting the 'great reunion' with her family and friends.

Uncle Charles, LeWanda, Holly, Sara and Charlie... I am so saddened over the loss of Aunt Elaine and cannot even begin to imagine what you guys might be feeling. Aunt Elaine was unforgettable... I will never forget her voice, her smile and her sense of humor. My ONLY fond memory of riding the bus while in school was when I would step onto the bus and see my Aunt Elaine there! I would always sit right behind her and chat with her during the ride. She was always thoughtful and though she had only met my husband (once... I think) she even sent him birthday cards! I will miss the cards and the chance to see her at the reunions. I pray that you guys can find peace and comfort during all of this. I love you each...

Life is so very unpredictable. Elaine was such a nice person and always had a kind word and a smile anytime we met and it was nice to see her smiling face and wave as she passed my house. I wish there was something I could do to ease the pain your family is feeling right now. Although we miss those who leave us here on earth, may we take comfort in knowing that we shall all one day be together again with our Lord and Savior. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends.

From: Ann Lender    12/27/2011 09:38 AM

I went to Huntsville High School with Elaine and we had daughters the same age, so we were always running into each other at school functions. Now that our daughters are grown, I didn't see her as much anymore except maybe in the grocery store or Walmart, but she was always smiling and happy to see me and we would catch up on each others lives with just a short conversation. She talked about her grandchildren and I told her my sad story about not having any grandchildren and not expecting to have any and she always said,"You can borrow one of mine anytime." Now, I have a grand-daughter and I never got to tell her and let her see my joy and I really regret that, because she was always so sincere in feeling sorry for me. A kind person, a good mother and grandmother and a special kind of friend. What a loss and to all her children, especially Holly who used to be so close to my family, I wish you happy memories of your mother.
