| VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES
| | | On May 20, 2009 the Lord came and took Sylvia home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be conducted at 10:00am Saturday, May 23, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Dornbush officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 22, 2009 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home.
Sylvia is survived by her husband of 52 years, Huntsville attorney Charles S. Davis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Clementine Patterson of Baytown, Texas and Joe G. and Cornelia S. Davis of Huntsville, Texas.
Sylvia attended Baytown public schools and was a graduate of Sam Houston State University, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. While at Sam Houston she met and married her lifetime love, Charles Davis. They made their home in Huntsville where she taught Texas History at Huntsville Independent School District for over 30 years. She cared deeply for the Huntsville community and dedicated herself to making it a better place through her involvement in numerous clubs and committees. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Known by her grandchildren and their friends as Honey, she was the epitome of what a grandmother should be. Honey and Partner’s house was always filled with fun, love and laughter. She touched all who knew her through her humor, smile and friendship and will be missed by many.
Survivors include husband Charles, son Charlie Davis of Huntsville and wife Kay, son Wayne Davis of Huntsville and wife Kelly, grandchildren Cole and fiancé Reyann Lyde, Kirby, Dalton, Samantha and Daniel; one sister, Linda Lintz of Baytown and husband Ted, nieces and nephews, Charles, James and Ashley; brother- in- law, Joe Davis of San Antonio and wife Lou, nephews Joe and Mark.
The family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers for the love and attention shown to Sylvia and Charles. Special thanks to Nanette Vondra Gilmore, Shirley Tyson, Elsa Baisa, Fern Lufsey, Dorothy Harrison, Blanche Frazier, Fannie White and the caring staff at Consider the Lilies and Odyssey House Hospice.
Pallbearers will include: Cole Davis, Dalton Davis, Daniel Davis, Mike Riley, Herb Jordan and Glenn Wilson.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joe G. Davis School of Nursing or to the Building Fund of the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville.
