| | | James E. Bennett passed away on July 1, 2009 in Huntsville, Texas. He was born in Crockett, Texas on March 12, 1922 to Robert Daniel Bennett “Dan”and Jenny Viola Bennett(Oldham.)
He was preceded in death by parents, brothers: John D. Bennett, J.B. Bennett, Efton Bennett, and sister, Loretta Bennett Henry.
Survivors include wife, Oma Gant Bennett; brothers, Quincy Bennett and wife Barbara of Dodge Center, Minnesota; Donald Bennett and wife Billie of Latexo, Texas; A.D. Bennett”Bill”of Crockett, Texas and sister, Annie Bell Bennett Watson of Latexo, Texas.
He is also survived by niece and husband Denise and Terry Vogler of Huntsville, Texas; Gayann and Bill Herring, and niece Elaine Heathcock and brother-in-law Y.B. Heathcock, all of Devine, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as great, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Bennett served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and then was a civil service worker for the U.S. Airforce Base in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #23 in Glendale, Arizona for fifty years and in 2009 became a member of Masonic Lodge #21 in Crockett, Texas.
The Bennett’s lived in Salmon, Idaho for several years where they enjoyed camping and fishing in the Salmon River. They also enjoyed traveling extensively in North America in their earlier years. He was a wood carver and spent many hours on gifts for all of his friends and family.
Services will be July 3, 2009, 10:00 AM at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas with Rev. Gary Garrison, pastor of the Second Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas, officiating. Interment will be on July 3, 2009, 3:00 PM at McNeil Cemetery near Luling, Texas with Rev. Charles Lee Woodward, pastor of McNeil Baptist Church officiating.
