ALVIN W. CUMMINGS, JR

Alvin W. Cummings, Jr. of Huntsville, Texas passed away on September 19, 2009 at the age of 86. He was born on Sept. 10,l923 in Huntsville. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis; his parents, Alvin Sr. and Bessie of Trinity and granddaughter, Marla Linville.

He is survived by his four children: his son David Cummings and wife, Cheryl of Riverside; daughter, Deanna Wickes of Conroe; son, Danny Cummings and wife, Vickye of New Braunfels; and daughter, Debra Cummings of Victoria. He has six grandchildren: Todd, Kyle and Erin Cummings; Glenna Stewart; April Finney; and Chad Cummings and three great grandchildren: Christian Rodriguez, Cassidy Cummings, and Colby Finney.

Mr. Cummings served in the Army Air Corps during WW II. He spent 34 years as a teacher and administrator in the Conroe and Bloomington school districts. He was a Mason,Shriner and a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans organizations.
He was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and spend time on his ranch near Cuero with his horses and cattle. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2009 at Hayman Cemetery in Coldspring, Texas with Dr. David Valentine officiating.
