  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Thomas E. Luke, Jr.

Thomas E. Luke, Jr., 61, of Elkins Lake in Huntsville, died on September 22 of a major stroke while traveling back to his home from a train show in Temple. A memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville on September 26 with the Rev. Mark Pickett presiding. Interment was in Hearne, Texas next to his beloved parents and grandparents.

Tom was born and raised in Houston and graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1966. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, and was a life-long Longhorn. He was a long time resident of Katy before moving to Elkins Lake to care for his parents. He was a good friend and neighbor to many there, and will be missed for his infectious enthusiasm and caring for others.

Tom's passion was the railways of America; he loved photographing trains and talking with railroaders. He loved the history of the iron horse and how trains made America. He had many good friends who both worked for the railway industry and those who also enjoyed trying to get that perfect photo of a train and scenery. He knew all of the best spots for that great photo and was quick to show others what he knew.

Tom had the gift of gab and kept all interested in the knowledge he had of the railroads of America with an emphasis on Texas. Those lucky to have made trips with him always returned with wonderful photos and exciting train chases. Tom will be remembered as a kind man with a bit of a rough exterior who would help you in any way he could. He will be missed especially by his good friends, Steve Goen, Ed Johnson, R.D. Evans, Chris Tolley, Eddie Moore, John Filson, Scott Kelm, Steve Agee, and Ed Bowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents Marion Feather Luke and Thomas E. Luke, Sr. as well as his grandparents Jimmie and Ed Luke of Hearne. His is survived by his aunt Mrs. Louise Feather of Kingsland and his cousins Ron Feather of Houston and John Feather of Arlington, Virginia.
