Kendall Dwaine Schrader was born November 5, 1924 in Cass County, Iowa near Lyman, the son of Henry and Gladys (Mullen) Schrader. He passed away on Tuesday morning, February 10, 2009 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 5 days.

Kendall grew up in the Lyman area and attended country school in Cass County. On June 11, 1945, he was united in marriage to Maxine Walters at the church parsonage in Lyman. This union was blessed with two children, Mike and Janet.

He served in the United States Army from 1945 to 1946 and was stationed in Japan. Kendall farmed for several years in the Guss area. Then he ran a cream route for five years before going to work at the lumber yard. He worked for Warren Construction in Clarinda for a time before starting his own carpentry business.

Kendall enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being outdoors. He also loved playing his harmonica, Polka dancing, his dog Eddie and most of all, his family. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, American Legion Post #88 of Shenandoah, the Guss Saddle Club and had been a member of the Taylor County Sheriff’s Posse.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Cecil Schrader; infant sister Avis Schrader and a brother-in-law Max Steffen.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Maxine Schrader of Shenandoah, Iowa; his children, Mike Schrader and his wife Nancy of Des Moines, Iowa, Janet Dukes and her husband Mike of Essex, Iowa; grandchildren, Angie (Schrader) Clark and her husband Robert of Garden City, KS, Bryan Schrader and his wife Joanne of Tulia, TX, Angel (Dukes) Dawson and her husband Bill of Essex, IA, Kristi (Dukes) Clark and her husband Jeff of Clarinda, IA, Shane Dukes and friend Megan Smith of Essex, IA, Leslee and Christian Dukes of Essex, IA, Pete Trost and friend Annie of Des Moines, IA, Adam Trost and friend Leah of Des Moines, IA; 10 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eulah Steffen of Clarinda, IA, Reba Maxwell and her husband Gerald of Villisca, IA; a brother, Darrell Schrader and his wife Delores of Nodaway, IA; sister-in-law, Marge Schrader of Sidney, IA; brother-in-law, Ronnie Walters and his wife Connie of Nodaway, IA; along with many other relatives and friends.
