Susie Regnerus was born July 31, 1919 in Columbus, Montana, the daughter of Richard “Dick” and Agnes (Boomsa) Poortinga. She passed away on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 28 days.

Susie attended school through the eighth grade. On May 9, 1941 she was united in marriage to Benjamin Regnerus in Chicago, Illinois. This union was blessed with three children, Sharon, George Robert and Jack.

Susie worked for the Samsonite Luggage company for over thirty years, retiring from their Denver, Colorado plant. She attended the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah and was a member of TOPS for many years. Susie enjoyed reading, word searches, walking, camping and taking cruises.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Benjamin; two brothers, Pete Poortinga and Clarence Poortinga; and a sister, Jeanette Hookstra.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Wentzel and her husband Lyle of Grant, Colorado, George Robert Regnerus of Colorado, Jack Regnerus and his wife Susan of Shenandoah, Iowa; four grandchildren, Tamora Bushman and her husband Carl of Denver, Colorado, Jeff Dufresne of Seattle, Washington, Stephen Miles and his wife Susan of Omaha, Nebraska, Scott Regnerus and Tammy Adams of Omaha, Nebraska; seven great grandchildren, Andrea Rea and her husband Sean, Jacob Bushman, Brittany Regnerus, Kailie Woodward, Madelaine Miles, Alexis Miles and Kayleigh Duggan; one great-great grandchild, Langston Duggan; one sister Theresa Tigchelaar of Michigan; along with many other relatives and friends.
