| | | Max D. Carlson was born December 2, 1921 in Essex, Iowa, the son of Emil A. and Effie (Nelson) Carlson. He passed away on Tuesday morning, June 9, 2009 at the age of 87 years.
Max attended Essex Schools and graduated with the class of 1939. During World War II, Max served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945 as a left gunner on a B-29 bomber on missions in India, Burma and Guam. After the war, Max returned to Essex and was united in marriage to Lucille V. Johnson. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before her death in 2007.
Max was a truck driver for many years and then later worked for the Eaton Corporation and the Essex Elevator. He was an Essex Volunteer Fireman for many years. He enjoyed music, high school and college sports, and most of all he enjoyed his family.
Survivors include his four children, Wayne Carlson and his wife Cathy of West Des Moines, Iowa, Jeanne Ann Weaver and her husband Jim of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Rosalyn Richardson and her husband Gene of Adel, Iowa, Juli Johnson and her husband Roger of Omaha, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Erik Carlson, Nick Weaver and his wife Heidi, Allison Tobias and her husband Todd, Michelle McFee and her husband Phil, Molly Benson and her husband Nick, Sarah Johnson and Aaron Johnson; seven great grandchildren, MacGuire Weaver, Tate Weaver, Mallory Tobias, Macy Benson, Victoria Benson, Teely McFee, and Max Tobias; a brother, Bernice Carlson and his wife Lenora of Essex, Iowa; a sister, Helen Mae Johnson and her husband LeRoy of Red Oak, Iowa; along with many other relatives and friends.
