| | | Gerald Henry “Shorty” Bredensteiner was born November 23, 1929 in Westboro, Missouri, the son of Henry John and Martha Minnie (Leibfort) Bredensteiner. He passed away on Saturday morning, June 13, 2009 at the Gardenview Care Center in Shenandoah, at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 21 days.
Shorty grew up in the Westboro area. He attended the Yale Country School and Westboro High School. He later served in the United States Army from April of 1952 until August of 1953 during the Korean War. He then returned home to start farming, which he continued his entire life.
On January 29, 1955, he was married to Mary Lou Moore and to this union two sons were born, Tim and Tom. Mary Lou passed away after 25 years of marriage in June of 1980. On November 26, 1982, Shorty was married to P. Jean (Gearheart) Young. They have been married for 26 years and have shared many memorable moments with family and friends.
Shorty farmed with his son Tim in the Westboro and Shenandoah community. He was a loyal member to the Elks Club where he played cards and shared many memories with his friends. Special times spent with his grandchildren, family and friends gave Shorty much enjoyment. He loved to spend time fishing, riding the tractor or 4-wheeler with his grandkids. Many great vacations kept him occupied in his later years with his wife Jean.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Mary Lou; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Bredensteiner.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Bredensteiner of Shenandoah, Iowa; two sons, Tim Bredensteiner and his wife Patty of Shenandoah, Iowa; Tom Bredensteiner and his wife Carla of Minneapolis, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Cassie and Colby Bredensteiner of Shenandoah, Iowa, Ryan and Lauren Bredensteiner of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a brother, Stanley Bredensteiner of Westboro, Missouri; step children, Bruce Young and his wife Brenda of Essex, Iowa, Brenda Myers and her husband Pat of Kiowa, Kansas; Scott Young of Essex, Iowa; Diane of Essex, Iowa; step grandchildren, Will Young and Karen Nelson of Indianola, Iowa; Kenny Young of Essex, Iowa; Justin Myers and his wife Jennifer of Shawnee, Kansas; Jeremy Myers of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Josh Myers and Kay-Leigh Jones of Independence, Missouri; Jared McManis and his wife Erin of Essex, Iowa; Clayton Young and Bradley Young of Essex, Iowa; two step great grandchildren, Zane McManis and Xander Jones; along with many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
