| | | Howard Wallace Young, the son of Frank and Ruby (Teachout) Young was born on February 26, 1919 and entered into rest on July 5, 2009 at the of 90 years, 4 months and 9 days.
Howard was educated in country school through the eighth grade and then attended Shenandoah High School, graduating in 1937. He was a great sports fan both as a spectator and a participant. In his younger days he was a softball pitcher and played with many different teams. In his later years, he was a great fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the St. Louis Cardinals. He also made Cardinal fans out of his children and grandchildren. Howard was also an avid fisherman.
He was a member of the Farragut United Methodist Church where he served on several committees. He was also on the co-op boards of Farragut and Shenandoah, the county school board and the Farragut School Board. Howard was a farmer by profession, a person who loved the land. He started farming at a young age when his father passed away his senior year in high school.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Wilma. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Zoe Young of Shenandoah, Iowa; two daughters, Rebecca Sterup and her husband Victor of North Platte, Nebraska and Barbara Lundgren and her husband Gaylen of Shenandoah, Iowa; five grandchildren, Aaron Sterup and his wife Amy of North Bend, Nebraska, Amanda Jedrzejczyk and her husband Scott of North Platte, Nebraska, Adam Sterup of North Platte, Nebraska, Todd Lundgren of La Vista, Nebraska, Scott Lundgren and his wife Ashley of Iowa City, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Lauren and Drew Sterup; a twin sister, Helen Irvin of Clarinda, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Maxine O’Dell and her husband Lynn of Glendale, Arizona; along with many other relatives and friends.
